Cars in German Town Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Officers mentioned they were alerted by a man who found a automobile in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Officers then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.

A senior representative stated the attack left him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
